Sebastián Negrón Reichard is Puerto Rico’s Department of Economic Development and Commerce Secretary. He studied law, business and economics at top-tier educational institutions. His career reflects a distinctive combination of academic rigor, public service, experience in the private sector and commitment to innovation.
Negrón Reichard graduated from the University of Pennsylvania through the prestigious Huntsman Program, earning a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The Wharton School and a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies. Later, he earned a Juris Doctor from Harvard University Law School and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Throughout his career, he has held leadership positions in government, finance, consulting and technology. He was Chief of Staff on Puerto Rico’s Fiscal Oversight Board, strategy consultant at Accenture in New York and an associate at Sullivan & Cromwell. He also worked at the fintech startup Minu in Mexico City and, as a Harvard Business School intern, advised the governor of Boston on issues related to economic development, permit reform and public-private partnerships.
In addition to his professional roles, Negrón Reichard has actively contributed to the public debate on economic development, regulatory reform and innovative policies. His work has been published in the Harvard Latin American Law Review, Harvard Business School and the Miami Herald, addressing issues such as energy modernization in Puerto Rico, government contracting reform, the CHIPS Act, federal bankruptcy law and equity in federal programs. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Harvard/MIT Cooperative Society.
His leadership and contributions have been highlighted in media such as Forbes, CNN and HBS Magazine. In the civic sphere, he co-founded Students with Puerto Rico and was a member of the Council of the Society of the Americas in New York, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening ties between Puerto Rico and the world.
